What Famous Authors Say…

From award-winning biographer, book critic, and film historian Scott Eyman, author of Bergman, Lion of Hollywood: The Life and Legend of Louis B Mayer, Empire of Dreams: The Epic Life of Cecil B DeMille, and several other major titles:

“The only thing wrong with your blog is that there isn’t enough of it. Write more, Alicia, write more!”

From Rex Pickett, award-winning author of Sideways, Vertical and Sideways: The Play:

“On the uncluttered blog site HollywoodEssays.com, Alicia Mayer, whose great-uncle just happens to be the famous Louis B. Mayer of MGM fame, rummages through an inherited treasure trove of family photos and, in an eloquent, but simple, writing style imparts a personal perspective on this past that she has disinterred, and which galvanizes her curiosity and transfixes her reflections.

For anyone who harbors a fascination for a kind of forgotten Belle Epoque of Hollywood past, Alicia’s blog posts scintillate and tremble with the assured voice of a woman who seems both haunted by, and determined to resurrect, these historical images, seeking, often interestingly psychoanalytically, to breathe new life into their distant, B&W, seemingly stillborn, photographed souls.”

  1. Hi David – is this a partial message? Or just a very enigmatic one 🙂 Best, Alicia

  2. I’m not a famous author, but I am an author (“Peg Entwistle and the Hollywood Sign Suicide: A Biography,” McFarland & Company, Inc., 2014) and I read enough from you to know you are a brilliant writer and historian. You have me in your corner.

  3. Hello Alicia,

My name is Robert, I am not an author by any means but I am proud to say that I was a former Theatre Manager/Projectionists @ a United Artists Cinema150 for many years, short of working for one of the Majors which was always my dream it was my way of being close to the film industry, in a way I guess you can say we are co-workers of sorts, as you are a Mayer and I worked for a company owned by MGM at one time, a stretch yes but a happy one. I follow you on twitter, this blog and your radio show, I look forward to all of them, best reguards, Robert.

  4. Thrilled to read your retort/protection factuals on LBM…I sent it on to Daniel (DMS) at the MPTF….I will follow your fb postings as well from now on. Kind thoughts. Xx Zia

  5. Thank you so much and I got quite a shock because you have the same rare name as my daughter! I couldn’t figure out what was happening at first, haha. Thank you again. You’ve truly made my day 🙂
