The Power of the Ladies – the Ladies Auxiliary

The Ida Mayer Cummings Ladies Auxiliary meets – tea, talk and dollars

IMC high teaBob Hope once said about my great-grandmother, Ida Mayer Cummings, that she was the only woman he knew who could reach down the phone and grab a man by the lapels.

Where her brother, Louis B. Mayer, was a force in Hollywood, Ida was a force in fundraising for the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aged. Ironically, my grandmother, Ida’s youngest daughter Mitzi, and my grandfather, Sol Baer Fielding, would spend their last days there.

But as I look at this photo I see the hats and fun, laughter and scheming to make sure the money flowed to ensure comfort for the elderly.

By the way, I have no idea what the red x’s are for shown on the original photo. And enjoy the vintage fashions, especially you hat lovers!
