It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my cousin Barbara Windom passed away suddenly. She was the daughter of Edie Mayer Goetz and Bill Goetz, sister to Judith Goetz Shepherd, mother to Maggie Clare, Debora Clare, and Rachel Windom Stengel, loved mother-in-law to their partners, and grandmother to beautiful granddaughters.
Barbara was the beloved aunt of Tony Shepherd, Scott Shepherd and Victoria Shepherd Bleeden.
She was the beloved long-time partner of poet Victor di Suvero and loved by his family. She was the remaining first cousin of Daniel Mayer Selznick.
Barbara’s family extended to those who worked with her at her historic ranch, La Estancia Alegre in Alcalde, New Mexico, where she bred rare and prized Peruvian Paso horses, particularly Roberto Quijandria, who worked side by side with Barbara for two decades. She will also be deeply missed by a wide circle of friends and colleagues who shared her passion for horses.
Barbara traveled to Oklahoma City for an annual horse championships where she experienced a sudden medical emergency. She passed away some hours later surrounded by her family who traveled to be by her side, and dear friends who had traveled with her.
